Description

Cellugel is a specialized leather consolidant developed by professional book conservators to treat deteriorating, powdery leather, commonly known as “red rot.”

Key Features:

  • Deep Penetration: Cellugel is absorbed throughout the entire thickness of the leather and dries within minutes.

  • Non-Darkening: Does not darken, discolor, or leave a film on the leather surface.

  • Quick Drying: Dries within minutes, allowing for prompt handling of treated items.

  • Safe for Adjacent Materials: Will not stain other materials it comes in contact with.

Application:

Apply Cellugel using a brush to the affected leather areas. For extremely thick or badly deteriorated volumes, a second coat may be necessary. Ensure the container is sealed properly to prevent evaporation; if thinning is required, use 100% isopropanol. Avoid using water, as it can cause staining and blackening of leather surfaces.

Specifications:

  • Composition: Hydroxypropyl cellulose and isopropanol.

  • Coverage: A 16 oz. bottle can treat approximately 60 books measuring 6 x 9 inches.
